Other information: Asgaard Farm and Dairy, located near the village of Au Sable Forks in the Adirondack Park, is the former home of artist, writer, adventurer and political activist Rockwell Kent. It was acquired by David Brunner and Rhonda Butler in 1988. After working several years to restore the land and buildings, they put the farm back into production, initially growing certified organic grains and hay. They have added a small but growing herd of registered Alpine and Nubian goats, which they milk on a seasonal basis to produce the farmstead cheeses mentioned above. Hand-crafted goat milk soaps are made during the winter.

Beyond field crops and the goat dairy, plans are currently underway to establish a grass-fed beef herd, raise free-range chickens, grow pastured pigs and create a CSA. Asgaard is also part of the American Tree Farm System, and its woodlands are managed using sustainable forestry practices.

Cheese and other products may be purchased at the farm. (Please call ahead for the hours, which vary during the year.) They may also be found at the farmers’ markets in Lake Placid, Keene Valley and Elizabethtown, New York. Retail stores that carry Asgaard products include Green Goddess Natural Foods in Lake Placid, Rivermede Farm Stand and Keene Valley Marketplace in Keene Valley and Nori’s Village Market in Saranac Lake, New York. The owners are proud to supply their cheeses to a select group of restaurants in the eastern Adirondack region.
