Other information: Painted Goat Farm is located in central New York, in the foothills of the northern Catskill Mountains. We are a pasture/forage-based farm abiding by organic and environmentally sustainable farming principles and natural animal husbandry. For us, this means over 100 acres of grass, shrub and forest dedicated to the goats and actively managed through composting, rotational grazing, and mobile fencing. We reclaimed land which had been abandoned for 40 years to build our idea of a goat dairy from scratch. We designed and built our cheese house ourselves, incorporating an underground, man-made cave for aging our cheese, 12 feet below the surface.

We dedicate a lot of attention and care to produce unique, high quality cheese. Only milk from our own goats goes into our cheese. While our goats are eating fresh forage, the aromatic herby flavor comes
through in the cheese and changes a little based on what they eat. The late fall months lend a more concentrated, rich, grassy taste to the cheese. Also, as part of our belief in producing the best cheeses in flavor, healthful benefits, and respect for traditional methods, we are proud to offer raw milk cheeses. All products are certified by the Animal Welfare Institute.

We sell direct to the public at the Cooperstown Farmers' Market and Schenectady Greenmarket and at a variety of specialty food stores and up-scale restaurants and cafes. See our website for details.
